This reel is awsome. For anyone who appreciates fine machinery like I do it is fun just to hold in your hand. It is true that this reel is MEGA overkill for trout and very expensive. I got mine as a graduation gift so I aint going to turn it down, but I would not have bought one had it been my money.

The reel is the best period, but like everything else that is the best, you have to pay ALOT for it. I personally would go with ROSS and TETON for a great trout reel and if you want a large arbor the new ORVIS Battenkill LA is a great choice and value. The ABEL super is a great reel for saltwater and overkill for fresh so think about that. ALSO: Don't let anyone fool into this Anti LA crap. LA when designed properly is not simply a loss of backing. The reel perfom much better. I think LA reel spin easier becuase all the weight of the spool is near the outside. They feel smoother and I think they are worth it.
