While both the tip-flex (Orvis index 9.5) and mid-flex (Orvis index 6.5) are excellent rods, the action of the new mid-flex model is much more forgiving and will be preferred by most casters. The new ferrule system eliminates my concerns about the 4-piece breakdown, as the new ferrules make it seem like it is a 1-piece blank. I have not seen a better trout rod anywhere, and with the additional bonus of easy transportation, this might be one of the greatest fishing instruments ever built.
